One of the personnel management functions identified by (obi 2004) is ensuring that the staff regularly undergoes development programmers to enable them carry out their present and future duties properly. This is important as the quality of education offered is determined by the quality and capability of the teaching staff in the schools. The heads of schools therefore have it as a responsibility, the professional growth and development and development of their staff. This can be done through:

 

1.      1.  Conference, seminar and workshops, which help teachers to be at abreast of new trends and developments in the field of education.

2.     2.   In services training, that is, courses for incremental or advancement of knowledge and skills, remedying of weakness identified, upliftment or promotion opportunities and leadership positions

3.   3.     Membership of professional bodies, e.g. the Nigerian association of Nigeria union of teachers, science teacher association of Nigeria , Nigerian association for educational administration and planning , curriculum organization of Nigeria etc. these bodies do organize conferences seminars and workshops purposely to improve their members discussion

4.    4.    Discussion of ways of improving performance. If teachers fall short of the objective, their error should be used as an information processing means towards establishing training requirements.

5.     5.   Encouraging self appraisal as a means of fostering further education and training
