The origin of npower started during the former president Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 about 500000 graduate and non graduate were enroll to the program with the aim of reducing the unemployment level in the country.
Even though the first batch of beneficiaries were promise employment after the 2year program this was not achieve due to the corrupt practices recorded in the program.
Further more when the new government of president bola Ahmed tinubu came to power as the president the program continued under the former ministry beta who was later relinquished from her duty due to corrupt practices this made the npower program to be suspended for further investigation.

According to the new minister prof nentawe yilwada who took over the ministry of humanitarian affairs and social development in a media chat with ponsak fanap and Gilbert Joseph at Jay fm recently make it clear that the major reason why the npower beneficiaries are yet to receive the stipends is because there was no budget provision for the npower program in 2025 but effort are being made to for the provision of a supplementary budget to take care of the outstanding stipends of the beneficiaries in 2025/2026 budget.

He further stated that the ministry is currently identifying the less privileged in the country and are being captured in the social register of the INVESTMENT program of the government which is aim in supporting millions of Nigerians with a stipends of 25000 naira monthly to help reduce their suffering in 2025.
